The City of Williamstown is currently accepting applications for the Water Plant Operator/Distribution position. This is a full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package. The starting pay rate is $21.50 per hour or more based on the applicant's experience and qualifications. the schedule for this position is 8 days on and 6 days off. Thursday through Thursday hours are 4 PM to 2 AM and every other weekend 2 PM to Midnight. Primary responsibilities include operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, inspection and/or monitoring of pumps, charts, gauges and meters, and participation in preventive maintenance programs on plant and equipment. While Water Plant Operator will be the primary job, the position will all include work in water distribution. Water Treatment License is preferred but not required. Highschool Diploma or equivalent is required. A mandatory post-employment drug screening is required.

Class Characteristics:
Under general direction, assists in the daily operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant; may supervise personnel assigned to plant in the absence of higher authority; performs related work as required.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Maintenance and cleanliness of the water distribution system, including distribution lines, installing new services to residences and businesses, conducting pressure tests, flushing fire hydrants, maintaining water load station, and replacing faulty meters.
- Ensures assistance with maintenance of equipment, including preventive maintenance.
- Required to obtain and maintain a Class I Plant Operators License and a Class II Distribution License from Kentucky Department of Water after one year of employment.
- Responds to emergency situations at Water Treatment Plant and assists other departments as requested.
- Assists customers with complaints as requested.
- Assists with maintaining adequate inventory of materials, supplies, spare parts, assists with mowing grass.
- Assists with maintaining pumps at the plant and with plant maintenance as requested.
- Reads meters as requested.

Knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and regulations of water treatment plant operations, including distribution system.
- Extensive knowledge of tools, equipment and vehicles and use of maintenance equipment (weed eater, mower, chain saw, rake, ax, pick-up truck, normal maintenance tools).
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and regulation of water distribution system, including construction, operation, maintenance, and cleanliness.
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, and administrative regulations reference water distribution.
- Thorough knowledge of functions and servicing/maintenance requirements of mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
- Extensive knowledge of geography of the service area.
Training, Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemental by work experience and/or education acceptable by the Kentucky Department of Natural Resources.
Abilities:
- Ability to ensure compliance with preventive maintenance and servicing programs.
- Ability to prepare and/or ensure the preparation of records and reports on a timely basis.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
- Required to obtain and maintain a Class I Plant Operators License and a Class II Distribution License from Kentucky Department of Water after one year of employment.
Physical Requirements of the Job
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors, requiring standing, walking, and stooping.
- Must be able to lift objects over 25 pounds.
- Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment.
- Will be exposed to high places and confined spaces.
- Must be able to climb ladders and climb stairs.
- Will be exposed to flames, water treatment chemicals and toxic substances.
- Must be able to use and operate mechanical tools and equipment (hand tools, power tools, etc.), laboratory equipment, vehicles, and safety equipment.
