The City of Williamstown is currently accepting applications for the position of Water Distribution Laborer I within the Williamstown Water Department. This position reports to the Water Plant Superintendent. The starting rate of pay is $17.00 per hour or higher, depending on qualifications and experience.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a regular work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks.
I. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Assists with construction, installation, maintenance, repair and cleanliness of water distribution systems, wastewater collection system, public works activities, parks, cemeteries, and other needs of the city. Installs and/or replaces lines, meters, regulators; raises meter jars. Make water and sewer taps. Locates water and wastewater lines. Inspects and locates leak in lines. Installs/builds manholes; cleans/flushes wastewater lines as required. Repairs lift stations. Pours concrete, blacktop, etc. Mows grass, cut trees and limbs. Assists with keeping all equipment in working order. Forwards requests for major repairs to superiors. Cleans vehicles, equipment and tools after use. Operates equipment after obtaining appropriate licenses, certification, and training. Reads water meters.

IV. REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Special Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and regulations of water treatment plant operations, including distribution system. Knowledge of tools, equipment and vehicles. Use of maintenance equipment (weed eater, mower, chain saw, rake, ax, pick-up truck; normal maintenance tools).
Education and Experience: Sufficient education to acquire the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Graduated from High School.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
V. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
Work is performed indoors and outdoors, requiring standing, walking, stooping. Must be able to lift objects over 25 pounds. Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment. Will be exposed to high places and confined spaces. Must be able to climb ladders and climb stairs. Will be exposed to fumes, water treatment chemicals and toxic substances.
